In your upper back jaw, the sinus sits close above the teeth. When those teeth are gone a while, the bone thins and the sinus drops lower, leaving too little height for an implant. A sinus lift gently makes room and adds bone. At Lake Park Dental in Milwaukee, we plan the lift in 3D first — because near the sinus, you want to see the space before you touch it.
WHEN YOU NEED A SINUS LIFT FOR IMPLANTS
This comes up when you want to replace an upper back tooth and the scan shows the sinus has crowded out the bone. It's common, and it's rarely something you'd notice on your own. Upper back teeth sit right below the sinus, and once they're gone, there's often not enough height left for an implant to anchor into. You came in for a tooth. The sinus lift is the step that makes room for it. Most people had no idea the space had shrunk at all.
Nothing about this needs a rushed decision. But upper back bone keeps thinning the longer a tooth is missing, and the sinus keeps settling into the space. A lift can restore that height, and a stronger starting point usually means a simpler procedure. The right time isn't when there's no bone left to work with. The right time is when you've decided you want the tooth and still have a good foundation to build on. Waiting doesn't hold the space for you.
OUR SINUS LIFT PROCESS
We start with a CBCT scan so we can see the sinus, the bone, and the exact height we're working with. Near the sinus, guessing has a real cost, so we plan the whole thing first. Then we gently lift the sinus membrane and place graft material in the space beneath it, which becomes new bone over time. We often add PRF from your own blood to help the site heal steadily. Depending on how much height you need, the implant sometimes goes in the same day, sometimes after healing.
New bone takes a few months to mature. We check the site as it heals and scan again before placing the implant, so the implant only goes into finished bone. When it's ready, you get a stable implant in a spot that couldn't hold one before — and a back tooth you can chew on again.
UNDERSTANDING THE COST OF A SINUS LIFT FOR IMPLANTS
A sinus lift is priced by what your case needs — how much height is missing and whether the implant goes in the same day or later. The scan tells us which path you're on. After your evaluation at our Milwaukee office, we put the full plan and cost in writing before any treatment starts. We're fee-for-service, so you get a detailed receipt to send your insurance for reimbursement. Cherry and CareCredit financing can spread the cost over time. You decide with the number in hand, not a rough estimate.
Why Choose Us
A sinus lift is delicate work in a tight space. Do it well and the implant gains a solid home. Move too fast near that membrane and the whole plan suffers. So we look before we lift, every time. Dr. Schneiss is among the 6% of US dentists holding both an AGD Fellowship and an AAID Associate Fellowship, and sinus lifts are part of the implant work he plans in 3D and performs himself. Careful is the only speed near the sinus.
Frequently Asked Questions about SINUS LIFT FOR IMPLANTS FAQs
Why would I need a sinus lift for an implant?
1
Upper back teeth sit right below the sinus. When those teeth are gone, the bone there thins and the sinus drops, leaving too little height for an implant. A lift adds bone so the implant has something to hold.
Does a sinus lift hurt?
2
Most people find it more manageable than they expect. You'll be numb, and sedation is available if you'd like it. Adding PRF from your own blood often helps the area heal more comfortably.
How long before I can get the implant?
3
Sometimes the implant goes in the same day; sometimes it waits a few months for the new bone to mature. Your scan decides which. We only place the implant once the bone is solid.
Will insurance help with a sinus lift?
4
Coverage varies by plan, and some apply benefit as part of implant care. We give you an itemized receipt to submit for reimbursement. Cherry and CareCredit financing are available if you'd like to pay over time.
